I just found out they're making one of my favourite teen books - The Moth Diaries - into a movie, which makes me both excited and nervous. (Because, books into movies is often a terrible thing, but sometimes made of pure glory.) Lily Cole is going to be in it and I Did Not Want but now that I've seen a promo picture for it she actually looks so incredibly perfect for the character that I am so very on board.

Other movies from books I love that need to get their arse into gear and HURRY UP:

Looking For Alaska - I love this book so much (John Green ♥ ♥) and the movie has been languishing in pre-production hell since about 2005. (Release date says 2013 at the moment but when I first heard wind of it it said 2010. So... yeah. Might never actually happen.)

Lunar Park - my favourite Bret Eastern Ellis book and I think the movie is still a rumour, but I'm not sure. 'Bret' is maybe going to be played by Benicio Del Toro. I don't care who they cast as long as it's creepy when they finish. I read most of that book at 3am by torchlight while sitting on the floor of a boyfriend's place and I kept thinking about things crawling out from under the bed... (Huh. IMDB says 2011. I think it might be bullshitting though.)

Hack/Slash - okay, so not a book but a graphic novel but I don't care. It's epic and I want it and I wish they would cast Cassie already and stop taunting me! (Again, 2012 is the release date listed but nothing has even happened with it.) How can the studios not want to make this right now? It's a series high on gore about a hot chick who goes after monsters! Come on, people!

There are other book-movies that I've gone "!!!!!!!" about when I found out, I'm sure, but I can't remember any other them now that I'm trying.

Bascially this post is to say "Boy, I love books. And movies."

Books <3

I just finished reading John Green's Looking For Alaska, and it was completely gorgeous and wonderfully sad. There are few things better than a heartbreaking and beautiful novel. I've also read An Abundance of Katherines by him which was also fantastic. He writes the most real teenage characters. It's amazing. I love finding new authors to fawn over.

Alison said that the library has his third book, Paper Towns on hold for her and I'm going to steal it and read it before she can. Because I am evil and books make my soul happy. (Hey Ali, according to his website the rights for Alaska and Paper Towns have both been sold to movie studios. I want to see Alaska as a movie, although thinking of all the many ways that could ruin it is scary.)

Other recent reads that were awesome:

Black Pearls: A Faerie Strand by Louise Hawes is a collection of wonderfully fantastic and dark fairytale re-tellings. I don't do descriptions so well but it was fantastic and dark and sexy and awesome. (Yes, I am so cool with my words.) Plus the illustrations in it were gorgeous. (Plus, her version of the Pied Piper? Never in my life have I thought a piper was hotter.)

And then there's another short stories collection called St. Lucy's Home for Girls Raised by Wolves by Karen Russell, of which the title story is the best within it.

Writers make me happy. Very very happy.

See, and now because I've read a nice proper book and talked literature I don't have to feel guilty about the fact that tonight is my Gossip Girl night. Blaaaaaair.
