It is indescribably strange to be here in Australia while, back home, something so huge is happening. My poor beautiful city is getting pummeled by this earthquake and its aftershocks and I've not even seen it yet other than in photos. On the one hand I feel incredibly lucky that I was here when it went down, because it means I haven't had to deal with the freaking out, the lost sleep, and the power and water losses, but on the other hand I hate that I'm here instead because all the people I love and spend my time with are going through this massive thing together and I won't be a part of it when I return. Is it selfish to think that way? Because everyone there can only be thinking 'uh, why would you WANT to be here?' But I guess it's a bonding experience of sorts for all of the city and I'm not going to be... bonded.

This all makes me homesick. I'm hardly ever homesick when I travel, only a few times when I lived in Ireland in fact and never when I'm here with family. It's odd and different. But I'm glad everyone back home is as safe as they can be and the fact that no one has died is the most amazing and wonderful news I've ever heard.

On a less flat note, however, I have been having a good time here, especially the other night when we had the cocktail party and Alison and I whipped up a serious storm of drinks from everyone. It was the day we'd found out about what was happening back home so we found a drink called Earthquakes to make. They were so good and way better than the real thing. I was the Queen of Drinkings and all bowed before me. As they should.

Earthquake
To half a glass of ice in a blender add:

1 measure tequila, god of all boozes
1/2 measure of grenadine
3-5 strawberries
a couple dashes of bitters

Blend like a mofo and then enjoy the delicious.

Strawberries Daiquiri
aka Joy in A Glass
Ice in blender again and then throw in:

1 measure white rum
1/2 measure lime juice
3/4 measure sugar syrup
5 strawberries

OM NOM LORD ALMIGHTY NOM

For the non-drinkers we discovered-

Jack's Special
Ice! Blender!

strawberries
200mls pineapple juice
2 dashes lemon juice

IT IS SO GOOD.

You may have sensed a strawberry theme. So many pink drinks. I felt like fanon Draco.

Holy crap, how excited am I to find out that sleazy sexist, racist, all-other-ists Abbott will not be the Australian Prime Minister? THANK GOD. Finally something right there!

This is my last night in Nimbin. Tomorrow I have an early bus up to the Gold Coast and will be staying with mum until the 12th and then it's finally back home! (While I'm in Brisbane though? There's a Valentino retrospective. I WILL BE BEHOLDING VALENTINO GOWNS AND MY LIFE IS MORE COMPLETE FOR IT.) Dad also bought me a book on Alexander McQueen and I am happily basking in fashion. It's lovely.

Everyone talk to me! Leave me comments of adoration/hate! I feel so out of the loop with all my internet/Christchurch people. Basically, if you're reading this post, I ♥ you. (Unless you're certain people who sometimes stalk it and to those people: I

I <3 you and miss you~ *snugs* I'm glad you're having fun! And I'm sure all your friends and loved ones understand your feelings. There's a safe haven in being away from it happening and not freaking out, yet at the same time you're not there with them---but it's not a selfish thing to be feeling at all. It's like sleeping through a hurricane to me. While you had your eyes closed and it swooped by, everyone else like OMG WHUT, you're still a part of it, because it's where you live, etc....and it's late and I don't think I'm making much sense at all between my hypoglycemia unfuns and tiredness.

We love you and miss you!

I hear where you are coming from about feeling left out but glad to be left out. You will get to experience all the rest of the aftershocks when you arrive so we are hardly like to be all 'you weren't there man, you weren't there' ^_^
We are all so lucky tho.

Totes have to have a drinkies and have those earthquack cocktails. They sound delicious.

Hooray for a apparently non racist Prime Minister for your country of birth!

OME! If you are allowed cameras in the exhibition thing please take pictures! Or get the glossy book they are sure to be flogging at the door. Also make sure you have a stylish bucket to collect your drool ^_^

Well we are both here and safe.
The internets was a great relief when the power came on after lunch on saturday, to see all the pictures especially when our suburb seems so untouched sans a few chimneys and a couple of silt volcanoes.
Now the media is getting a bit desperate like, lets interview this woman who slept through the earthquake! or, the engineers are checking the Cathedral, IT'S GOING TO COLLAPSE!! (its not). But I'm really getting sick of the "be prepared for another large quake soon", and "this may have set off a chain of earthquakes that could last years". Thats great, but I'm not sure I acctually want to know that.
The aftershocks today are certianly fewer, but can still be quite large. They re-drew the fault-line and now it goes through Rolleston, where my parents are going to build, and getting un-nervingly close to Christchurch.

But we are all ok, I promise!

I am glad I wasn't here for the big quake but when it was all happening, I wished I was so I could have known the extent of what was going on. So I get that too.

Love.

Today I went to visit Lara and had some of her delicious chili and it was very good. We yacked for yonks =) There was a tremor while we were talking and I went WOAH and Lara went, What? and I went, Tremor! Didn't you feel it? and she said, Nope! cos she was talking too intently and didn't notice it! But I do understand the "want to be there to be included" vibe. I hope the cordon is a bit smaller tomorrow so I don't have to walk around it so far =/

Very relieved that Abbot isn't PM, that would suck balls.

More time
