Jan. 5th, 2009 08:50 amI just watched the most worrying documentary called Skinny Kids all about the influence of media on the body images of young girls and it was distressing. Six year olds should not be dieting because they think they're too fat, especially when they're skinny twiglets. Seven year olds shouldn't be wearing full make-up everyday and shaving their legs. Eight year olds should not be dressed up like skanks and wishing they were teenagers so they can be pole dancers.
But maybe I'm just an old fashioned fuddy-duddy. (Let's not even get started on the sexualisation of little girls by the fashion industry, because it's a whole other fucking disturbing rant there.)
I didn't care about this stuff as a kid. It makes me so sad to see how much so many of them do these days. I wish they could all just stay innocent kids for as long as they could.
